Environment Volunteers of Ürgüp (ÜÇG) is a small group of 20 nature lovers who aim to afforest the mountains of Ürgüp. In order to hear more about the aim and objectives of the group who started their work ten years ago on Eğrim Mountain and accelerated in 2008, we had an interview with Osman Demir, one of the most active members of the group.
Only in 2008, ÜÇG planted thousands of seeds on Eğrim Mountain and planted hundreds of trees such as almond, maple, cedar, juniper, larch, oleaster, linden, locust, cypress as well as 4-5 kinds of oak trees together with tree of heaven and bushes. They are planning to plant 3 thousands young trees in 2009. Their overall aim is to reach 15500 which is the population of Ürgüp today. The volunteers receive a small amount of financial and young tree contribution; most of the expenses are being covered by them. In addition, they not only work on planting trees but also collect waste batteries. ÜÇG is small but they work very hard; we hope the number of their supporters get more.
