GMYO, established in a very short time period with great efforts, accepted its first students during 2008 and 2009 semesters. Having this school in Güzelyurt, which has a high potential in tourism, is also very symbolic because the school will not only provide high quality man power but also create a fresh energy to make live the historical and cultural richness of Güzelyurt.
With its 3000 m² wide area and 5 different departments, GMYO is located in the center of Güzelyurt which is 35 km far away from Aksaray. Under Economy and Administration Department, Tourism and Hotel Administration Program, under Technical Department, Handicrafts, Fermentation and Greenhouses Programs are being run. For the first education year GMYO has 149 students and 24 academic personnel.
Before starting its education life, the school became the leader of a summer academy on art for the first time in Turkey. The summer academy called Güzelyurt Ihlara International Summer Academy was realized in 2008 with the support of local authorities and hosted 150 students and 50 experts from Hacettepe University and Near East University of Northern Cyprus. The students had the chance of participating in the workshops of design, painting, photography, sculpture, ceramic and graphical design. The summer academy will be organized for the second time in 2009 with a greater participation.
